Every country has it´s trends and a person who predicts them. A guru in all sorts of trends and when it comes to interiors in Sweden that role has been cast by media and assumed in a well directed way by Stefan Nilsson. He calls himself and his website : Trendstefan
Norway, Denmark and Finland have their own trend gurus and to me internationally Li Edelkoort has become the one that I like to listen to.
For the first time live I heared and saw Trendstefan when I last visited Stockholm during the Formex Fair. We were invited to hear his predictions at Berns Hotel which was part of the well organized tour put togehter by professional Trendgruppen which is a company that is part of Stefan Nilssson´s past and extremely productive professional life.

This lecture Stefan talked about the trends of 2015 that he calls :

Stefan has a very easy going and charming presentation and makes it all very entertaining and amusing. He has comical timing and makes his audience laugh at our ways as humans.
He looks at the details as well as the big picture. One of the points he made was to make us aware of that there are companies today taking new ways like Inglorious Fruits&Vegetables that has grown succsessful for taking care of and selling the ugly carrots as well. Since only perfect carrots are displayed the ugly ones were thrown out. BUT -- this magical company decided to take care of the ugly ones. Don´t you just love hearing stories of success like this ? I do!
Stefan presents occurrences as well as detailed products that tells the same story as the trends he presents as a trend guru off course should. To prove the theory that he has presented.
And that to me is so interesting. That off course it only is a theory. It is Stefan´s way of seeing the trend truth.
So it´s really just a view.

Many trend companies around the globe use words like council or institute - in Sweden Moderådet which means the fashion council, this to make it sound more powerful and like it almost is part of the govermental type of department and therefore sound more authoritarian.
Do you think trends are made by councils, institute or companies ?
In my opinion trends are always made by us. The people. All of us that are interested in expressing ourselves and naturally also by designers and artists that express their visions. Then trends are categorized and presented by forecasters or gurus.
